Every year I look forward to the 50-mile benefit run because the race keeps bringing back a great group of ultrarunners to Avalon. The energy is awesome and I enjoy photographing you all year after year (Avalon Bay News' photographer Jenny Mountz). Instead of a story this year, I have added a photo page for the runners to enjoy click here.

One hundred thirty-seven runners started and 131 finished. Year after year these runners return for this magnificent event - one of the country's most challenging and scenic 50 milers. This event wouldn't be the same without a few diehard 50-mile runners: Kent Holder and Hal Winton, who have ran in this event 21 times for a combined total of 2100 miles. Complete 2003 results

Peter Park demolished the course record by over 17 minutes. The previous record of 6:05:31 was set by Ben Hian in 1997. Peter just missed the record in 1999 when he ran 6:08:52, and then missed it again last year when he did 06:06:07. This year he clearly set the record straight! Tania Pacev missed the women's record by less than a minute! She looked fresh and strong at the finish. The record, set by Julie Arter in 2000, is 7:22:45.
